Every year, county fair week gives me the opportunity to challenge myself in the kitchen, revisit treasured family recipes, and create something special from ingredients grown or made here at home. This year, I decided to preserve that experience in a collection that I could share with you.
The Yellowknife Homestead 2026 Fair Baking Collection brings together all eight of my 2026 fair baking entries, along with the family stories, techniques, and memories behind them.
Inside the collection, you’ll find recipes for:
• Sourdough Bread
• Honey Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread
• Peach Cinnamon Streusel Bread
• Peach Butter Fancy Braided Bread
• Grandma Moon’s Date & Nut Bread
• Fudge Chocolate Cake
• Fresh Raspberry Pie
• Fresh Peach Pie
These aren’t simply recipes chosen for competition. They are the recipes I bake for my family, recipes shaped by years of experience, and recipes connected to the people and traditions I love.
This year’s fair brought home six ribbons. Fresh Raspberry Pie and Peach Cinnamon Streusel Bread each received first place. Sourdough Bread, Honey Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread, and Fudge Chocolate Cake received second place, while Fresh Peach Pie received third place.
But this collection is about more than ribbons.
It includes the story of how my love of baking began, memories of my first competitive bake, photographs from this year’s fair preparation, and the lessons I have learned from baking for both family and judges. I wanted it to feel like a keepsake cookbook—something beautiful enough to leave on the kitchen table and useful enough to become flour-dusted from regular use.
The digital edition is designed with full-color photographs and easy-to-follow recipes so you can bake directly from your computer or tablet, or print the pages you use most often.
From my kitchen to yours, I hope these recipes encourage you to bake something from scratch, preserve a family favorite, or begin a new tradition of your own.
